July 2016

Writing is an inherently lonely process, yet its ultimate goal is to create connection and
communicate to others. For this reason, workshops and consultation can be especially important
in the course of a writing project or ongoing writing practice. During July 2016, I will be offering
three writing workshops:

Poet's Circle: Craft and Critique

Four sessions, Fridays, July 8 July 29, 10:30 a.m. 12 noon.
Limited to 3-5 participants. $160/session.
Fairfax, CA

A supportive setting to share your work and receive constructive feedback. We'll look for voice,
tone, what the poem has to say. Writing prompts and assignments.

Capturing the Spark: Freewriting and Development

Four sessions, Saturdays, July 9 July 30, 10:30 12:00 noon.
Limited to 3-5 participants. $160/session.
Fairfax, CA

How to capture the creative spark, that unconscious wisdom at the heart of our best writing? In this class we'll use in-class freewrites to generate material and then select one piece for closer examination. Where's the energy? How to expand the thought, the moment? Participants will take work home to refine and bring in to share in the next session. For discussion: What was the process?

Overcoming the Loneliness of the Long-Distance Writer

Four sessions Fridays, July 8 July 29, 2:00 3:30 p.m.
Limited to 3-5 participants. $160/session.
Fairfax, CA

Support group for those working on long-term projects. Whether undertaken for academic,
professional or personal reasons, a long-term writing project requires skills and strategies beyond
good writing. Letting others in on the journey can lighten the load and offer encouragement
during those inevitable dark hours. We'll discuss resources, practice, process, and more.
